Spotlight: Grower Champagnes
Our handpicked selection of Grower Champagnes featured at the Winemakers Club Tasting
Eric Rodez: The Maestro
Deeply expressive from the start. The ageing in old oak brings a lovely oxidative character, with toasted nuts and beeswax, while the natural acidity of the Chardonnay keeps everything fresh and precise. The Ambonnay terroir comes through in the chalky, mineral character running underneath the ripe orchard fruit. The multi-vintage blend adds another layer of complexity. The Pinot Noir brings body, presence and a silky richness through the palate, while the Chardonnay gives the wine precision and length. With only 2g/l dosage, the wine is very dry and focused, full of tension, but the generous ripeness from the barrel ageing keeps everything in balance. The finish is long, with a lovely saline and chalky character that stays with you.
Vincent Bliard: The Revolutionary
Champagne Vincent Bliard is one of only 3 families cultivating organically since the mid 60s. Les Fondamentaux, translating as fundamentals, is the original blend in their range. This particular cuvee is always a blend of the three major Champagne grapes and the composition depends on the identity of the base vintage. With coopers as ancestors, naturally all their Champagnes are spending 1 year in barrel.
Jean-Marc Charpentier: The Harmoniser
Brut Verite is the first opus in Jean Marc Charpentier "Terre d'Emotion" range. With a focus on Chardonnay, Jean-Marc's grandfather favourite variety, combined by a splash each of Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier for added energy and savoury characteristics. All reserve wines used in Terre d'Emotion are aged in old oak barrels bringing a subtle richness and complexity. In order to refine the purity of the freshness emulating the limestone soil Brut Verite will spend 60 months maturating on the lees in the cellar. This brings a profile of pure and sincere expression of the terroir above everything else. What surprise us the most is the primary fruit characteristic versus autolysis in this range. A delicate nose of citrus and blossom, creamy bubbles, pure and elegant. A beautifully crafted Champagne that will impress novices and connoisseurs alike. Really easy to drink!
Eternel Optimiste or Eternal optimist will resume the life long mentality of Papy Jean. Saying he has always been too optimist to farm organically in a region that is only starting to warm up on this farming method, 60 years after he started… This is the only Blanc de Blancs of the Domaine, purity and beauty. Sadly far too limited in quantities, to be snapped up before its too late.
“Deep, salty, buttery lemon with heady apricot intensity and nutty depth. Nice chalky, bitter citrus palate. Youthful yet expressive.”

One of the most distinctive rosé Champagnes being made today. Rodez's macération technique really makes a difference here. Combined with the depth of the reserve wines and almost total barrel vinification, it creates something that feels closer in spirit to a fine Burgundian rosé than a conventional Champagne.
Edition 38 is structured and serious, with exceptional depth from the reserve wines — 57% from 2019 and earlier. This gives the wine real depth and complexity. For those who find most rosé Champagnes too light, this is the answer.
“Elegant nose of apple, quince, lemon blosson and bread crust. Crisp and pristine with plum, raspberry and gentle creaminess. Silky texture, apple skin bitterness, toast and lovely length”
