Weingut Andres, Pfalz, Deidesheime Kieselberg Riesling, Spätlese, 2024

£25.00
Sold Out

A rare and rather beautiful break from the dry style that defines most of the Andres range. The Kieselberg — a plateau above Deidesheim formed by calcareous loess deposits over red sandstone — is one of the coolest and most mineral sites in the village, swept by air the nearby Forrest and yielding wines of notable elegance and finesse. In Spätlese form, with naturally retained residual sugar balanced against the site's characteristic bracing acidity, the wine achieves a classical poise that few German wine styles can match. A style mostly found in the Mosel, rarely seen in the Pfalz as this is simply a warmer region. Lime, white peach and delicate orchard fruit on the nose, with a faint herbal lift and the cool, saline mineral thread that runs through every sip. On the palate the sweetness is subtle and perfectly balanced — light, focused and long, with a finish that is simultaneously refreshing and lingering. Awarded 2nd place at the Best of Riesling 2025 by the celebrated Review Meininger.

Nestled in the heart of Deidesheim along the famous Deutsche Weinstraße, Weingut Andres is a family estate that embodies the perfect balance between tradition and a bold new vision. Founded by the brothers' grandfather, the estate has been passed down through three generations, each leaving its own mark on this exceptional property in the Mittelhaardt.

Since 2015, brothers Michael and Thomas Andres have taken the reins from their father Matthias, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge — Michael having studied oenology in Geisenheim and Thomas wine business management in Heilbronn. Known in the wine scene as the "Flintstone Brothers" for their distinctively reductive winemaking style, the duo has quickly become one of the most exciting names in German wine.
