Famille Cecillon , Hermitage 'La Quérillère', 2024

£137.00

It's been a longtime dream of Julien's to produce a wine from the Hermitage hill. An opportunity struck in 2024 and he was able to vinify one single barrel. This wine will be as rare as hens' teeth, being the only vintage released until another opportunity arises.

When we tasted in barrel, we could not believe our taste buds as the wine was soft and elegant with a light touch. With age it has gained precision and grip, the 20% whole bunch gives a nice lift both in flavour and tannin precision. Such an impressive wine that will age gracefully but like all of Julien's wines, it also has a gorgeous velvety touch that makes it enjoyable in its youth.

Julien is native from the region, coming from a winemaking family, nephew of excellent maker Jean Louis Grippat. He did not start his career in wine since his uncle sold the vineyards to Guigal in 1998. In his quest for a happy life, he ditched tailored suits and ties for overalls and wellies; making a U turn in 2008 and retrained. Nancy is from Houston, Texas. She started her winemaking life in Marlborough - New Zealand followed by Napa Valley. She then qualified and worked as a sommelier. They met in San Francisco. What they have achieved in the last 10 years is remarkable. From two plots of vines in Saint Joseph, they have spread their wings a little further. They now produce wines in Saint Péray, Cornas, Saint Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage and a myriad of super tasty vin de pays.
