Domaine D'Ourea, Gigondas Rouge 2021

£37.40

The nose opens with bright red fruits — wild strawberry, red plum, and cranberry — layered with dried herbs, white pepper, and hints of crushed rose petals. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and finely textured, with taut acidity and chalky tannins framing a core of juicy, mineral-inflected fruit. Elegant and savoury, it finishes long with notes of garrigue, blood orange, and stony grip.

This is a remarkably refined Gigondas — closer in spirit to a fine Burgundy than a blockbuster Rhône.

After studying wine and work experience in Burgundy and California, Adrien took over his Grandfather Raymond Bertrand in 2009. The first year he moved to organic viticulture, certified in 2012 and since 2020 he is applying Biodynamie. Agriculture is a work of patience and it took him 10 years to get nature back on track with healthy living soils. The move towards biodynamie is the continuity of his Philosophy. The Domaine covers 20ha and everything is done manually by a closed knit team surrounding Adrien. One thing is for sure, he doesn’t count the hours spent in his vineyards! His wines capture his natural cheerfulness and with a very strong Provencal accent to top it off.
