Domaine Barmes Buecher, Pinot Noir Grand Cru Hengst 2023
The Reputation of Barmes Buecher Pinot Noir is the reason we went to visit them in the first place. The Family do have a special connection with Pinot Noir and Burgundy. Mathilde, the Great-Grand-Mother was sent to Burgundy to learn French. She spent a few year as an au pair at the famed Volnay estaste Marquis d'Angerville. A life loong friendship was made and a love for great Pinot ignited back in Alsace. When planting vineyards with Pinot Noir they choose a Burgundy massale and planted on the best soils in Wettolsheim Grand Cru Hengst!
‘Dark, warm and generous, this astonishingly concentrated, compact and tightly wound pinot noir breaks the Alsace red wine mold. Fabulous vitality and finesse on the medium- to full-bodied palate. There are aromas of wild blackberries, bitter chocolate, blood oranges, even a drop of blood, but this only hints at the seemingly supernatural depth and complexity of this innovative masterpiece. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.’
